After years of denying allegations of doping, Lance Armstrong finally came clean in an interview with Oprah Winfrey.

Armstrong admitted to using banned substances in the first part of a two-part interview series which aired Thursday night.

The Livestrong Foundation, which Armstrong founded, said that it is “disappointed” but is “grateful” for him.

In a statement issued by the Livestrong Foundation, it said:

“We at the LIVESTRONG Foundation are disappointed by the news that Lance Armstrong misled people during and after his cycling career, including us,” the charity said in a statement Thursday. “Even in the wake of our disappointment, we also express our gratitude to Lance as a survivor for the drive, devotion and spirit he brought to serving cancer patients and the entire cancer community. Lance is no longer on the Foundation’s board, but he is our founder and we will always be grateful to him for creating and helping to build a Foundation that has served millions struggling with cancer.”

Armstrong opened up to Oprah hours after his bronze Olympic medal was taken away and three months after being stripped of all seven of his Tour de France medals.

The U.S. Anti-Doping Agency report detailed Armstrong’s years of using performance enhancing drugs.

When asked why he’s coming out now. He responded, “I don’t know that I have a great answer.”

“I will start my answer by saying that this is too late. It’s too late for probably most people and that’s my fault. I view this situation as one big lie – that I repeated a lot of times.”

What do you think of Armstrong admitting to doping? Is it too late?

Pope Benedict XVI will resign on Feb. 28. says the Vatican.

According to the Associated Press, the Vatican says that Pope Benedict XVI will be resigning on Feb. 28 due to health concerns.

The 85-year-old pope is the first pontiff to resign in nearly 600 years.

The Vatican is set to elect a new pope before the end of March.

Pope Benedict says that being pope and leader of more than a billion Roman Catholics wordwide requires “both strength of mind and body.”

“After having repeatedly examined my conscience before God, I have come to the certainty that my strengths due to an advanced age are no longer suited to an adequate exercise of the Petrine ministry,” he told the cardinals. “I am well aware that this ministry, due to its essential spiritual nature, must be carried out not only by words and deeds but no less with prayer and suffering.

“However, in today’s world, subject to so many rapid changes and shaken by questions of deep relevance for the life of faith, in order to govern the barque of St. Peter and proclaim the Gospel, both strength of mind and body are necessary strengths which in the last few months, has deteriorated in me to the extent that I have had to recognize my incapacity to adequately fulfill the ministry entrusted to me.”

There are several contenders to the position of pope. But at this time, there are no clear front-runners.

Benedict’s possible successors include Cardinal Angelo Scola, archbishop of Milan, Cardinal Christoph Schoenborn, the archbishop of Vienna, and Cardinal Marc Ouellet, the Canadian head of the Vatican’s office for bishops.

During the selection of a pope, all cardinals under age 80 are allowed to vote. The meeting is held in the Sistine Chapel where cardinals cast ballots.

The ballots are then burned after each voting round. Black smoke that comes out of the chimney means a pope has not beet chosen. If it is white smoke that comes out then a pope has been elected.

Amazing pencil drawings look like photographs.

British artist Kelvin Okafor creates pencil drawings from Beyonce, Amy Winhouse, Mother Theresa, to Princess Diana. His pencil drawings are so detailed that they look so much like photographs.

If you look at the drawings closely, there is not one pencil line in sight. Yet, Okafor only uses a set of pencils, a piece of paper and a stick of charcoal.

The 27-year-old artist’s story is almost like a rag to the almost riches story. He and his family were too poor that he would often stay at home in Tottenham, North London instead of drinking and clubbing. He grew up in one of the country’s poorest areas and still lives there with his family.

The London’s Science Museum is featuring an exhibit of his work this week. And some of the pieces have already sold for £10,000 each.

The artist says he prefers to work with photographs instead of live models. Okafor tells the Daily Mail that it takes about 80 to 100 hours to do one portrait. It would be close to impossible to have someone sit there for that long.

Okafor offers to draw portraits from £800 to £ 3,000.
