After years of denying allegations of doping, Lance Armstrong finally came clean in an interview with Oprah Winfrey.

Armstrong admitted to using banned substances in the first part of a two-part interview series which aired Thursday night.

The Livestrong Foundation, which Armstrong founded, said that it is “disappointed” but is “grateful” for him.

In a statement issued by the Livestrong Foundation, it said:

“We at the LIVESTRONG Foundation are disappointed by the news that Lance Armstrong misled people during and after his cycling career, including us,” the charity said in a statement Thursday. “Even in the wake of our disappointment, we also express our gratitude to Lance as a survivor for the drive, devotion and spirit he brought to serving cancer patients and the entire cancer community. Lance is no longer on the Foundation’s board, but he is our founder and we will always be grateful to him for creating and helping to build a Foundation that has served millions struggling with cancer.”

Armstrong opened up to Oprah hours after his bronze Olympic medal was taken away and three months after being stripped of all seven of his Tour de France medals.

The U.S. Anti-Doping Agency report detailed Armstrong’s years of using performance enhancing drugs.

When asked why he’s coming out now. He responded, “I don’t know that I have a great answer.”

“I will start my answer by saying that this is too late. It’s too late for probably most people and that’s my fault. I view this situation as one big lie – that I repeated a lot of times.”

What do you think of Armstrong admitting to doping? Is it too late?
