Canada’s new $20 bill features a sleek new look and apparently the wrong maple leaf!
The red maple leaf is one of Canada’s national symbols. It’s actually used in the Canadian flag.
When the $20 bills began circulating, to the untrained eye, it looks like a maple leaf. However, according to botanists, the leaf depicted in the bill is actually a Norway maple.

The Norway maple is actually considered an invasive species in Canada.
The Bank of Canada says the maple leaf on the bill wasn’t supposed to be a specific maple leaf. It was supposed to be an artistic spin to the maple leaf.
Unfortunately, it would be difficult to change this now because millions of $20 bills had already been printed.
